Moud Mahi Rug

Moud is a small town south of Mashad in Khorrasan province, and carpets from here are known for a very uniform quality and a homogeneous expression. Moud carpets almost always have a Mahi or Herati pattern on a cream-coloured base, often combined with a round locket and corner panels. The most commonly used colors are ivory, blue, and brown, and the carpets are typically finished with a variant of the traditional Persian turtle border. The pile material is wool, and the rugs are woven in all sizes. Due to their uniform expression and precise knotting, Moud carpets are often copied in India, as their distinctive design is among the most recognizable in all of Khorrasan. The well-known Moud Garden variant, inspired by Bakhtiari carpets, shows a stylised garden seen from above.
