Nain 9 LA Rug

Nain is a city of about 50,000 inhabitants in Isfahan province and has historical significance as the last stop on the caravan route before the desert of Kavir-e-Lut. The city's Grand Mosque is one of Iran's oldest and is considered far better built than the later and more famous mosques in Isfahan. Nain's traditional industry was woollen clothing, but when demand declined, the skilled weavers switched to carpet production, and their work was quickly recognized for high quality and fine materials. Nain carpets have wool in the pile with silk contours, and in finer fabrics, more silk is used in the pattern base. The colours are typically refined shades of ivory and cream combined with small fields of red, green and blue, and the patterns follow the classic Persian compositions, which are also known from Isfahan. The carpets are produced in all sizes – up to around 60 m² – and some of the most exclusive ones have pure silk fur; the largest Nain carpet ever woven measured 20 x 20 meters.
