Paper Yarn Care

A natural choice with character and charm

Paper yarn is a refined natural material that brings a timeless and organic look to furniture - especially chairs with woven seats. Typically available in natural shades or black coloured paper yarn, it combines aesthetic lightness with strength and durability. Although paper yarn requires minimal care, there are a few important things to know to ensure the longevity and appearance of the material.

How to care for paper yarn

Paper yarn generally requires no maintenance, but if you want to freshen up the braided seat, you can:

  • Dry it gently with a hard cloth
  • Use a mild, colourless soap solution - never detergent
  • Avoid soaking the seat - water wears the paper yarn, which is only treated with a thin layer of wax

In Case of Spills – Stain Removal on Paper Cord

Spills of strongly colored liquids such as red wine, fruit juice, or curry should be treated immediately:

  1. Gently blot with a well-wrung cloth – never rub
  2. Use only clean water or a mild, colorless soap solution
  3. Avoid letting the liquid soak deeper into the fibers

Color transfer from dark textiles, such as new jeans, can also stain paper cord. We recommend using a seat cushion to protect the seat from color transfer and daily wear.

Paper Cord & Climate – Effects of Heat and Humidity

Both paper cord and wood are living materials that react to changes in temperature and humidity. Therefore:

  • Avoid placing furniture with paper cord in direct sunlight or near heat sources such as wood stoves and underfloor heating
  • Be aware that the furniture may creak slightly with temperature changes – this is completely natural

When the Chair is New – and Maybe a Bit Uneven

A new chair with hand-woven paper cord may wobble slightly at first, as the cord is tightly woven and under tension. This will naturally even out as the chair is used and the material has a chance to settle.
