Silk Care

How to keep your silk beautiful and durable

Silk is one of nature's most luxurious materials - known for its softness, lustre and exclusive look. But because silk is made of fine, natural fibres - typically from the cocoons of the silk butterfly - it requires special care to maintain its elegance and longevity.

How to wash silk correctly

Silk can usually be washed in the washing machine, but it requires care. Always use a gentle programme (max. 30 degrees) and a detergent without enzymes or bleach. Enzymes can break down the natural proteins in the silk fibres and degrade both structure and colour.

Before you wash, ask yourself: Is the silk really dirty - or does it just need to be freshened up? In many cases, steaming the silk is enough, which both removes odours and refreshes the fibres without wear and tear.

Drying and storage - avoid marks and loss of shape

Silk is delicate after washing and can lose its shape if hung in an inappropriate way. The best method is to let the silk air dry flat - preferably on a towel. If you want to hang it up, use a wide hanger to avoid pressure marks and changes in fit.

Always read the washing instructions

Silk products are not all the same. The weave, colouring and finish can vary, as can the care requirements. Some silk products can only be dry cleaned - especially those with special colouring methods that can be damaged by both hand and machine washing.

REMEMBER: Always read the washing instructions carefully before washing silk. This is your guarantee to preserve colour, shape and feel.
