Viscose Care
How to best care for your viscose products
Viscose is an elegant and natural textile made from regenerated wood fibres. It resembles silk in both appearance and softness - and was originally developed as a more accessible alternative to the exclusive silk of the 1800s. It provides a lightweight, breathable and comfortable feel against the skin, while also having a characteristic silky sheen.
Viscose is not only beautiful - it's also functional. It absorbs moisture well, keeps its colour wash after wash and rarely fades, even after prolonged use.
How to wash viscose right
Viscose requires gentle care to maintain its shape, colour and feel. Although many viscose products are machine washable, it's crucial that you follow the washing instructions for each product carefully. Due to differences in colour treatment and weave, some products may only be suitable for professional cleaning.
Tips for washing viscose
- Choose a gentle wash programme, such as wool or delicate wash.
- Keep the temperature low - preferably 30°C, maximum 40°C.
- Avoid high spinning as this can damage the fibres and lead to shrinkage.
- Use a mild detergent without bleach or enzymes.
Avoid shrinkage and keep the fit
Viscose tends to shrink if washed or dried incorrectly. Therefore, you should always air dry viscose - preferably flat and away from direct sunlight. Avoid tumble drying, which can both distort the shape and wear the fibres unnecessarily.
Always read the care label - it pays off
Before you wash your viscose product, take a moment to read the care label. This will ensure that you give your dress, shirt or blouse the treatment that will prolong its life - and preserve the elegant look that viscose is known for.
